Biography

Pierre Dekker, born in the Netherlands in 1994, is a double bass player, specialized in the contemporary classical repertoire. He has been based as a freelancer in Frankfurt since 2018, and has been engaged for projects by symphony orchestras and opera houses, along with chamber music and contemporary music ensembles.

At the moment, he is principal bass at the Basel Sinfonietta and a member of Ensemble Variances in Rouen.

Biography

Pierre Dekker picked up a cello for the first time at the age of 4, and switched to double bass two years later. From a very young age, he has been curious about different performance arts. Even though his main focus was always on classical double bass music, he studied jazz, composition and electric bass.
After studying 4 years in the preparatory class in CODARTS Rotterdam, he graduated his Bachelor in the CNSMD in Lyon, followed by the International Ensemble Modern Academy Frankfurt in 2015-2016, and a master study in Gothenburg Music University.
Right now, Pierre is a regular guest of the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Ensemble Resonanz Hamburg, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and l’Orchestre National de France. He has also worked with orchestras such as l’Orchestre du Capitôle de Toulouse, Bergen Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Kammerorchester Stuttgart and Collegium Novum Zürich among others.
